Passports & Visas
All visitors need a passport or valid travel documents for international travelers, however, US travelers do not need a visa to enter Macao for stays under 30 days.
Access
Macao is easily accessed from the US with connecting flights into Macau International Airport. Located just 1 hour from Hong Kong, there is also a 24-hour hydrofoil ferry service from Hong Kong and departures are every 15 minutes during peak hour. Ferries can be booked online in advance.
Climate
The climate is moderate to hot. Autumn (October – December) days are sunny and warm and the humidity is low. Winter (January – March) is cold but sunny. In April, the humidity starts to build up and from May to September the climate is hot and humid with rain and occasional tropical storms.
Currency
The pataca (often written as MOP) composed of 100 avos is the official unit of currency in Macao. US$1.00 is equivalent to approximately MOP$8.20.
Language
Chinese and Portuguese are the two official languages, with Cantonese the most widely spoken. English is Macao’s third language and is generally used in trade, tourism and commerce.
